Verdict

Gemini is the assistant to try when Google is already the system of record. ChatGPT is still the more familiar general hub for mixed stacks. Claude is still the prose and long-document comparison. Perplexity is still the cited-web comparison. Do not paste customer data into a consumer Gemini chat and call it Workspace. Read the admin settings for the domain. If the company’s files are in Notion and the code is on GitHub, run a bake-off — do not assume the Google brand wins that week.

Perplexity is the default cited-web sketch. You.com stays only if it wins your bake-off. Elicit, Consensus, and NotebookLM own other corpora. Use it to find what to read, then read. Do not paste a Perplexity paragraph into a filing. Re-run important queries when the news moves — yesterday’s citations are not a briefing. Confirm which mode you are in before you blame the product. Open two links or do not quote the answer. That rule sounds childish until the first time a confident footnote points at a page that does not say the thing. Perplexity is a sketch. You still ink it.
