Use DALL·E when the chat is already open. Check what your ChatGPT plan includes this month. Do not build a brand system on a model you only access through a consumer chat. Use DALL·E when ChatGPT is already the room. Leave when type, Adobe, or self-hosting is the real constraint. Check the plan’s image entitlements this month before you promise a PM a batch of concepts.

DALL·E 3’s advantage is residence. Product managers describe a metaphor in ChatGPT, iterate in the same thread, and paste a result into a deck the same hour. You do not learn a new community.
Prompt following is strong. Art-director wow still gets compared to Midjourney. Words painted into the image often lose to Ideogram. Local and open pipelines are out of scope.
Treat outputs as concepts until design QA. Medical and factual diagrams will invent plausible anatomy. Do not ship those.
If you already pay for ChatGPT and you need a picture in the argument, this is the path of least resistance — not the path of maximum craft.
Keep the prompt and the chosen image in the same thread as the decision they supported. That is the only way a later reviewer can see why a metaphor looked like that. Lost threads make brand reviews guess. If the metaphor needs a designer, stop iterating in chat and open a file.
