Evaluation

What to know

Editorial notes based on the vendor's own documentation and public pricing, plus hands-on testing where a score or review is shown above. They describe fit for a job, not absolute quality.

Best for

  • Knowledge workers producing reports and decks from web research
  • Developers who want a capable coding agent alongside a general assistant
  • Analysts running large batch research tasks

Not ideal for

  • Teams requiring US- or EU-only data processing
  • Casual users who only need occasional chat
  • Anyone wanting predictable per-feature limits

Key features

  • Kimi K3 model with native vision and up to 1M-token context
  • Deep Research reports built from multi-step web search
  • Slides, Docs, Sheets and website Build modes that output editable files
  • Agent Swarm for parallel, multi-agent batch tasks
  • Kimi Code for terminal and IDE coding with the same models

Pros

  • One subscription covers chat, research, office documents and coding
  • Long-context handling suits big reports and codebases
  • K3 is open-weight and also reachable through Moonshot's API

Cons

  • A single shared credit pool means one heavy feature can starve the others
  • Upper tiers at $99-$199 a month are steep for individuals
  • Some organizations will hesitate over a China-based provider's data handling

ToolifyNav verdict

Kimi earns its place among general-purpose assistants because it treats chat as the front door to finished work: research reports, slide decks, sheets and small websites come out as artifacts rather than paragraphs to paste elsewhere. K3's long context and the Agent Swarm mode make it especially capable on sprawling, multi-source jobs. The trade-offs are practical rather than technical, namely a pooled credit system that rewards planning, premium tiers priced for professionals, and a provider location some compliance teams will question. Individuals and small teams comfortable with those terms get unusually broad capability per subscription.

About

About Kimi

Kimi is the consumer and prosumer assistant from Beijing-based Moonshot AI. It first stood out for very long context windows, and the current release runs on Kimi K3, an open-weight multimodal model Moonshot launched in July 2026 with native vision and a context window of up to one million tokens.

The home screen still looks like a plain chat box, but most of the product now lives in task modes. Deep Research runs multi-step web searches and returns a long-form report; Slides produces editable presentations; Docs, Sheets and Design generate documents, spreadsheets and visuals; Build creates and deploys simple websites. Agent Swarm splits large jobs across many sub-agents working in parallel, which Moonshot pitches for batch research and bulk data work. Kimi Code brings the same models to the terminal and to editors such as VS Code and Cursor.

Projects, scheduled tasks, plugins and a desktop app round out the workspace. All membership features draw from one shared monthly credit pool, so a heavy Deep Research week reduces what is left for coding. A free tier remains available, and paid plans were renamed Plus, Pro, Max and Ultra in September 2026 without changing list prices. Existing subscribers on the older tempo-named plans keep their terms.
