ToolifyNav verdict
Qwen Chat is the most direct way to try Alibaba's model family, and its free feature set is generous enough to stand in for a paid assistant for many individuals. Deep Research, the Web Dev page builder and built-in image tools cover ground that rivals often reserve for subscribers. What it lacks is organizational scaffolding: shared projects, admin settings and clearly stated usage caps that businesses expect. Treat it as a strong free generalist and a showroom for Qwen's open models, while companies with strict data rules look at the API or self-hosted weights instead.
About
About Qwen Chat
Qwen Chat is the official front end for Alibaba's Qwen models, the open and proprietary family whose open weights are among the most widely downloaded. Visiting chat.qwen.ai drops you into a minimal chat window with a model picker; at the time of checking the default was Qwen3.7-Plus, alongside an Auto option that routes requests for you.
The feature list is broad for a free product. Thinking mode exposes step-by-step reasoning, Search pulls in live web results, and Deep Research runs a multi-step agent that compiles a sourced report. Web Dev turns a natural-language brief into a complete web page you can preview, while Artifacts renders code and documents beside the conversation. On the creative side, Qwen Chat offers image generation and editing through the Qwen-Image line, plus video generation. It also understands images, audio, video and documents, supports voice and video chat, and can call tools.
Alibaba describes the assistant as free to use and open to all, with no consumer subscription advertised. Developers who outgrow the chat app can move to the Qwen API, which uses an OpenAI-compatible format, or download open-weight models to run themselves. Desktop and mobile apps are available for iOS, Android and computers.
