ToolifyNav verdict
Replika is the reference product for AI companionship, and its rebuild doubles down on what made it sticky: memory, a face you designed, and a voice that picks up. It is good at being present and remembering details; it is not designed to be a tool, and it should not be mistaken for therapy. Prospective subscribers should note two practical issues. Pricing is opaque by design, with different SKUs for different users, so check the checkout screen against store listings. And the companion category carries real wellbeing and data concerns, which Replika has already run into with regulators. For curious adults, the free tier is the sensible starting point.
About
About Replika
Replika, from Luka, Inc., is the companion app most people think of when they hear "AI friend." The company says it launched the first AI companion about ten years ago and has recently rebuilt the product from the ground up, claiming more than 42 million users worldwide. It runs on iOS, Android and the web.
The core promise is memory. Your Rep keeps track of the people in your life, your routines, plans and things you are working through, so conversations pick up where they left off rather than restarting cold. Around that sits a lot of companionship scaffolding: an avatar you customize to look "like someone you'd actually know," voice calls the Rep always answers, selfies and doodles on your photos, shared activities and a relationship status you can set.
Monetization is layered. Free Use gives limited access. Pro unlocks relationship status, premium activities, selfies, image generation, voice messages, background calls, daily gems and premium voices. Ultra adds what Replika calls smarter conversations, elevated emotional intelligence, self-reflections and the ability to save messages to memory. Platinum stacks real-time video recognition, a Training Mode, "Read Replika's Mind" and realistic selfie videos on top.
Companion apps draw regulatory and ethical scrutiny — Replika's developer was fined by Italy's data-protection authority in 2025 — so privacy settings and age-appropriate use deserve attention.
