Stable Diffusion is a pile of choices. Midjourney is one choice. Flux is a newer family you might host the same way. Firefly is the opposite political object. Pick SD when control or residency is the requirement, and name the owner of the graph. Budget the GPU and the person. If that sentence scares the buyer, buy Midjourney and stop role-playing as a lab. GPU time, model storage, and the human who maintains the pipeline are the costs people forget. A managed Midjourney seat can be cheaper than a poorly owned cluster.
Open is worth it for regulated environments, custom characters, air-gapped rendering, or research that needs the weights. It is not worth it as a personality flex.
If nobody can explain which checkpoint is in production, you do not have a pipeline.
Pin the checkpoint hash in version control the way you pin a compiler. 'Whatever we downloaded in March' is not a stack. When the look drifts, you will want that hash more than another LoRA. Document the LoRAs that are allowed. Surprise weights are how brand characters mutate. Name the checkpoint or you do not have a pipeline.
