Verdict

ChatGPT remains the default general assistant because the interface is familiar and the quality floor is high. It is the wrong default for a systematic review (Elicit), a cited news brief you will not verify (still verify, or use Perplexity and then verify), or a multi-file refactor (Cursor, Claude Code). Claude is still the comparison for long, careful documents. Gemini is still the comparison when the work already lives in Google. Grok is still the comparison when you want xAI’s voice and X-shaped context. Pick ChatGPT as the hub, write down what must never be pasted into it, and buy the workspace tier if the hub is going to see company material.

Claude is the long-document comparison. ChatGPT is the broader hub. Gemini is the Google-account hub. Grok is the X-shaped voice. Cursor and Claude Code are where code ships. Use Claude when the pack is long and the prose matters. Demand the “what did you invent?” pass. Buy the workspace if the pack is company material.
