ChatGPT remains the default general assistant because the interface is familiar and the quality floor is high. It is the wrong default for a systematic review (Elicit), a cited news brief you will not verify (still verify, or use Perplexity and then verify), or a multi-file refactor (Cursor, Claude Code). Claude is still the comparison for long, careful documents. Gemini is still the comparison when the work already lives in Google. Grok is still the comparison when you want xAI’s voice and X-shaped context. Pick ChatGPT as the hub, write down what must never be pasted into it, and buy the workspace tier if the hub is going to see company material.

A realistic ChatGPT day is not “replace the company.” Morning: turn a messy note into decisions and owners. Midday: three email variants for a sticky stakeholder. Afternoon: rubber-duck a design, then leave for the tool that owns the artifact — Cursor for the repo, Midjourney for the picture, Perplexity when you need links you will open.

Consumer chat is the wrong place for customer exports, medical instructions you will follow blindly, or a strategy deck with no constraints. Custom GPTs help when the same instructions repeat weekly. Browsing, voice, and image modes depend on the seat. Promising a teammate a feature your plan does not include is how IT starts saying no to the whole category.

Workspace and Enterprise change the data story. The unpaid consumer tab does not. Read the actual policy for the account you type into.

ChatGPT is a flexible hub. The spokes still exist. The fastest way to make it look bad is to ask it to be Cursor, Elicit, and your lawyer in the same thread.
