What to know
Editorial notes based on the vendor's own documentation and public pricing, plus hands-on testing where a score or review is shown above. They describe fit for a job, not absolute quality.
Best for
- Indie game developers blocking out props and characters
- 3D-printing hobbyists turning photos or sketches into printable figures
- Product teams producing quick 3D mockups for e-commerce or pitches
Not ideal for
- Studios needing production-ready topology for close-up hero models
- CAD engineers who need exact dimensions and parametric control
- Users who cannot accept attribution requirements on free output
Key features
- Image-to-3D and text-to-3D generation on the Meshy 7.1 model
- AI PBR texturing with optional 4K HD texture pass
- Auto-rigging plus a 600+ motion animation library
- Print checks, auto-repair and Auto Split with STL/OBJ/3MF export to major slicers
- API, CLI, MCP server and DCC bridges for Blender, Unity, Unreal and Godot
Pros
- Covers the whole path from reference image to rigged, textured, printable asset
- Agent and engine integrations make it easy to slot into existing pipelines
- Free tier is genuinely usable for evaluation with 100 monthly credits
Cons
- Free-tier output is CC BY 4.0, so commercial work needs attribution or a paid plan
- Hard-surface detail and topology still need cleanup for hero assets
- Credit costs add up quickly when retrying complex characters
ToolifyNav verdict
Meshy belongs on the shortlist for anyone who needs a usable 3D asset faster than they could model one. Its edge over single-purpose generators is breadth: the same workspace handles reference-faithful generation, PBR texturing, rigging, animation and print preparation, and the MCP server lets coding agents request models directly. The trade-off is the usual one for generative 3D: meshes are a strong starting point for props, figurines and prototypes, but hero characters and anything dimension-critical still go through Blender or a CAD tool. Budget for a paid plan if outputs will ship commercially without attribution.
About
About Meshy
Meshy is a browser-based 3D generation service that turns a text prompt, a photo, a sketch or a piece of concept art into a mesh you can download, texture, animate or print. The current model line is Meshy 7.1, which the company positions around "true-to-reference" fidelity: the output is meant to track the source image closely rather than drift into a generic interpretation.
Generation is only the first step. Meshy adds one-click PBR texturing (albedo, normal, metallic and roughness maps, with an optional HD texture pass at 4K), automatic rigging for humanoid and other characters, and an animation library of more than 600 motions on paid plans. For makers, the pitch is printability: models are described as watertight and manifold out of the box, a built-in checker repairs edge cases, and Auto Split divides complex models into parts arranged on the build plate. Exports cover STL, OBJ and 3MF, with direct hand-off to slicers such as Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer and Creality Print.
Developers get a REST API, a CLI and an MCP server that lets Claude, Cursor or Codex request 3D assets inside an agent workflow, along with plugins for Blender, Unity, Godot and Unreal. Free accounts carry a CC BY 4.0 license, so commercial use requires attribution unless you upgrade to a private license.
