Verdict

ChatGPT remains the default general assistant because the interface is familiar and the quality floor is high. It is the wrong default for a systematic review (Elicit), a cited news brief you will not verify (still verify, or use Perplexity and then verify), or a multi-file refactor (Cursor, Claude Code). Claude is still the comparison for long, careful documents. Gemini is still the comparison when the work already lives in Google. Grok is still the comparison when you want xAI’s voice and X-shaped context. Pick ChatGPT as the hub, write down what must never be pasted into it, and buy the workspace tier if the hub is going to see company material.

Paradigm

Turns a learning goal into a syllabus that rewrites itself as you progress — a path, not a course catalog.

Best for

• Self-directed skill goals with a deadline
• Learners who outgrew static course outlines
• People who want the plan to change after a bad week

Verdict

Paradigm is a curriculum engine. Duolingo is a habit. DeepL is a translator. ChatGPT is a talkative textbook. Mixing those jobs up is how education apps get returned in week two. Try Paradigm when you have a concrete skill, a time box, and a willingness to tell the thing what “done” looks like. Keep Duolingo if the only thing that works is a streak. Keep DeepL in the browser for documents. Do not buy Paradigm as a replacement for a real course when you need a credential on a résumé — it will not give you one.
