What to know

Best for

  • Mac writers who live in native text fields all day
  • People who refuse to send drafts to a cloud model
  • Ghost-text fans who already like IDE autocomplete

Not ideal for

  • Windows or Linux desks
  • Teams that need a shared cloud style guide
  • Anyone expecting rewrite, tone, or long-form generation

Key features

  • System-wide ghost text on macOS
  • On-device model, works offline
  • Per-user style from local typing
  • No extra chat surface

Pros

  • Private by construction, not by a settings toggle
  • Latency feels like the OS, not like an API
  • One job, finished

Cons

  • Mac only
  • Will not become your editor or inbox

ToolifyNav verdict

Typeahead should be on the shortlist only if the problem is “finish this sentence in the field I am already in,” and the constraint is that the keystrokes cannot leave the machine. That is a real, narrow job. It is not a Notion replacement, not an inbox, and not a writing coach. Superhuman still wins if the unit of work is an email thread. Grammarly still wins if the unit of work is a grammar pass across browsers. Notion AI still wins if the draft has to live next to the rest of the wiki. Buy Typeahead when those products feel like too much surface area for a caret that just needs a next-token guess — and confirm the Mac-only license before you pitch it to a mixed-OS team.

About

About Typeahead

Typeahead is a Mac utility, not a chat product. It sits in the caret of Mail, Slack, Notes, Docs in the browser, and anything else that accepts keystrokes, and offers ghost text the way Xcode or VS Code does — except the model never leaves the laptop.

That local-only bet is the entire product. People who will not paste a client email into a cloud LLM still want the last five words of a sentence finished. Typeahead trains a small personal style model from what you already typed. There is no workspace, no shared memory, no “ask it to rewrite the paragraph in a friendlier tone.” If you need those jobs, Superhuman, Grammarly, or Notion AI are different tools.

The honest limit is the platform. There is no Windows or iOS client. Teams that want a shared brand voice in the cloud will find nothing to administer. The license is a one-time Mac purchase, which is refreshing until you realize you also cannot treat it as a writing suite.

Use it as infrastructure: keep the cursor where the work already is, and stop opening another tab every time a sentence stalls.
